What we are taking about / What questions we are asking
This area is to summarise the *questions* we are asking ourselves. It is not the area for the conclusions / ongoing discussions. We should include concrete examples where possible to better explain our thinking. The Web Project Board will be alerted to the content of this page on 17 / April / 2015.
Is the Global Power concentration in TN (Transition Network) reasonable / ethical?
what sort of reaction do people outside TN, especially from other language areas, have to TN decisions and their ownership of Transition? is "consultation" offensive?
should TN be making decisions for the movement? Privilege?
does TN own Transition?
is there a possible excitement from the grass-roots in the equal dissemination of the power to the whole movement?
Most Transition Towns blog. Many talk to each other. Many meet. However, what are the possibilities for a global information / discussion network amongst Transition Towns?
Transition people seek information. For example:
- Who do I build a solar panel?
- Where can I get I.T. support for extending my website?
- Can I get a residential course on meeting organisation?
- How do I approach local government?
- How do I solve in-group conflict?
- Where can I find inspiration for the next project?
How easy is it at the moment to find the answers to these questions?
Who answers them? How? Is there a bottle neck? What structural options are there for this network?
Who owns, authors, doesn't author, looses, finds, shares this information?
How important is it?
Is the information synergysing and causing the movement to self-grow, change, innovate? Or is the movement stuck simply waiting for the next book?
How should we practically implement these ideas?
a small initial project to learn about talking with Transition Groups, about culture and about project lifetime and management.
In the context of the remit from TN
1) provide feedback on our plans for, and progress with, the TNv3 Web Project, helping us identify the right points at which to consult international users and/or test prototypes with international users and helping us design processes to carry out that consultation and/or testing in a meaningful way;
still under discussion.
2) act as critical friends to the project team, helping us identify opportunities to create a website which international users will find clear, accessible, useful and inclusive and which will connect well with existing and future websites developed by individual National Hubs;
sure: we are happy to help here. Should we connect with local TI groups and develop a network to support these investigations?
3) provide constructive challenge, alerting us to any proposals (whether in relation to website content, design or functionality) which make UK-centric assumptions or unnecessarily concentrate power and/or information within Transition Network as an organisation.
*All* power / information ownership concentration is un-necessary. All decisions coming from TN will have been the subject of unnecessary un-elected concentrated power. That needs to be addressed.
